...one that doesn't suck. I cannot spend more than about £850. Here are my proposed specs: CPU: Intel Core i5-660; 3.33GhZ GPU: PowerColor HD 5830 PCS+ MoBo: Gigabyte P55-UD3 HDD: 500GB; 7.2K rpm; 12MB Cache Case: Casecom 6788 RAM: 4GB DDR2+ (1066MhZ) PSU: 600W SoundCard: Creative X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Soundcard OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit TVCard: Hauppauge WinTV-Nova-t PCI Freeview Receiver Monitor: 22"Acer P225HQbd Black I'll need guides to put the thing together, but I know enough about hardware (which admittedly isn't very much) to manage it. Your thoughts on this setup? I think it's all compatible. Also, let me know if there's anything you think I'm missing or should change. I'd also like recommendations of places to buy the parts themselves. EDIT: Monitor Chosen Thanks, people. [ Edited Sat May 22 2010, 12:39AM ] ![]() |

Also, can anyone recommend suitable cooling? I'm not sure what to go for.

You would just need to add a monitor to either of those bundles. The latter is better than your spec. - More HD space (1TB 16mb cache vs 500gb 12mb cache) - Better Ram (4gb DDR3 16000mhz vs 4GB DDR2) - Better CPU (4.2 GHz vs 2.9ghz) - Better PSU (corsair 650) - Better gcard (depending on what you go for) If I was in your shoes I would go down that route! especially seen as you're not 100% sure how to config it all! Well I would go for that, but with my build everything is the same or better than in that PC. On top of this, without the monitor, mine costs literally £300 less. This is the build I've decided on. I'm ordering the parts tomorrow :3 It's fantastic value. If you cba with the link: CPU: Intel Core i5-750 2.66Ghz (I'll overclock it myself) GPU: Powercolor HD5830 PCS+ RAM: 2x2GB G.Skill RipJaw DDR3 (1600Mhz) HDD: Hitachi Deskstar 7200rpm, 32MB cache PSU: OCZ ModXStream Pro 700W Silent MoBo: Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD4 (I have a £20 Amazon Gift-Certificate). Case: Casecom 6788 Black Mid Tower Case Extra Case Fans: 2x 120mm black fans Monitor: LG W2261VP 22 inch LCD Monitor 16:9 DVI HDMI - Black (I got it at half price second-hand as new with a gift certificate) OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64, to be bought for around £50 on Ebay (I want a Genuine copy xD) [ Edited Wed May 26 2010, 06:19PM ] ![]() |

Haha. Wow. I didn't realise OCUK's prices were that far out compared aria. But then again, I've not built a system from scratch since I was about 16 (now 21). Although, you wont need a 700W psu to run all that. I have the 500W version of the PSU you've speced. It's verry quiet. Cooling wise, I would go for some Noctua 120mm or Aska case fans. They're pricey but silent and push air. Also, I have this CPU cooler: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-067-TR&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat= It's awesome. I don't even need to put a case fan on it it's that great at cooling. You can obviously look around for the best price, it's a beauty! If I was building a new PC I would want it to be silent that's for sure! Silent case fans Silent PSU (which yours is) Silent GPU (not sure if yours is, although it maybe) Silent CPU (Which it will be if you get the above cooler) All the above? Bliss! .

SCAN sell that CPU Fan for £10 cheaper, Google tells me. You sure you've not been being ripped off all this time..? :3 I may well indulge in one of those. Looks like a sexy bit of kit and the reviews (especially Spawn's :L) are all really good. Cheers! ^^ ![]() |

Haven't looked at the forums in a while.. Anyways, I'd just like to say !! Don't bloody buy the 5830 !! get a bit more money and get a 5850 edit: Just drop the idea of getting the sound card if you can't afford the 5850 with your budget [ Edited Thu Jul 01 2010, 03:00PM ] |
